Cultivate 2K
Initiative
Rooted in care. Nurtured with kindness. Blossoming into life.
At 2Kaizen, we believe real change doesn’t always come from policy or programs—it comes from people. From connection. From shared experience.
That’s why we created the Cultivate 2K Initiative—a free monthly camp for boys aged 8–12 in out-of-home care. It’s not just an escape from the everyday—it’s a return to something quiet and essential. A space to slow down, breathe deep, and feel the calm of simply being.
Here, we don’t lecture—we live it.
Camaraderie. Integrity. Guidance. Perseverance. Adaptability.
Not as ideas, but as actions. As presence. As practice.
Over campfires and morning walks, through cooking meals and cleaning up together, boys begin to absorb what it means to take care of themselves—and each other. They learn how to build healthy friendships, navigate emotions, and face challenges with patience and strength.
But the most powerful lessons aren’t spoken.
They’re witnessed.
In the way a mentor listens.
In how he carries himself.
In how he speaks about others.
In how he handles pressure and shows up—consistently, humbly, with heart.
A real role model teaches more by being than by telling. And when a young person sees someone embody what they could become—it leaves an imprint. It plants a quiet seed of possibility that no textbook or talk ever could.
Cultivate 2K is that kind of space.
A bridge—not just between people and services—but between who a young person is today, and who they might dare to become.
It’s where skills are learned, values are lived, and something real begins to grow.
For kids who have known chaos and speed, this is a sacred pause.
To feel safe.
To feel seen.
To learn to thrive—not just survive.
If you’re part of an agency, a service, or simply someone who believes in the power of presence—
we invite you to connect.
This is just the beginning of something deeply meaningful.
Let’s cultivate it—together.

Who Is It For
Cultivate 2K is for boys aged 8–12 in out-of-home care.
Because we want the experience to feel safe, inclusive, and genuinely restorative, these camps are best suited for children with low-to-mild behavioural or support needs.
For children requiring higher support or one-on-one attention, we offer Camp-Based Mentoring, where the same spirit of 2Kaizen can be experienced in a smaller, tailored setting.
Why Do We Do It
We’re doing this because we believe in being the change—not just talking about it.
The world has become expensive, and simple joys like a night under the stars or a meal shared by the fire shouldn’t be out of reach.
Cultivate 2K exists to bring those moments back—freely, gently, and with heart.
-
Short-Term Aim: Start small—around five participants per camp—building trust, familiarity, and continuity with the same young people.
-
Long-Term Aim: Grow slowly and naturally to a close-knit group of nine, deepening relationships and guiding boys toward resilience, belonging, and self-mastery over time.
This is a living seed—planted with care, tended through each camp, and maturing with every season. As it grows, so will we.
What We Do
Our first three camps will focus on building rapport and joy through shared experience:
-
Outdoor games and adventures that foster teamwork and confidence
-
Campfire cooking, storytelling, and reflection
-
Simple routines that build independence—setting up tents, cleaning up together, preparing meals
-
Time in nature: swimming, hiking, and exploring safely under mentor guidance
As the group matures, we’ll gently weave in more capacity-building experiences—practical skills, leadership, and creative projects that strengthen self-reliance, mastery, and belonging.
Each camp is small, relational, and responsive—balancing fun with emotional safety and depth.

Our Vision
Cultivate 2K is still young — a living seed tended with care.
But within this beginning lives a quiet hope: that what starts as a weekend camp might grow into something that stays with each child — a sense of strength, kindness, and belonging that continues to guide them as they grow. Each gathering plants a small seed of courage and care — one that, with time and companionship, may help them stand tall and walk their own path with confidence and heart.
We see these gatherings as the soil from which something enduring can rise:
a circle of young men who have learned not only how to survive, but how to belong—
how to look after themselves, each other, and the world around them.
As the program grows, so too will its branches: new places, new mentors, new boys who carry the same spark forward.
And perhaps, in time, the seeds planted here will become the forests of tomorrow—strong, steady, and full of light.
FAQs
Who runs the camp?
Our team is made up of experienced, qualified youth workers, mentors, and lived-experience leaders. Every staff member holds current Working With Children Checks (WWCC), police checks, and training in trauma-informed care, with a deep commitment to presence, safety, and respect.
Food & Dietary Requirements
All meals during camp are provided by 2Kaizen and prepared together with the boys as part of the experience. Sharing food and cooking as a group helps build independence, teamwork, and care for one another.
As this initiative is completely self-funded, we’re unable to cater for individual or complex dietary requirements at this stage.
If a child requires specific meals or ingredients, we kindly ask that these be provided by the caseworker or carer prior to camp, and we’ll ensure they are stored and prepared safely.
Below is an example of a typical camp menu:
Lunch: Sausage or ham sandwiches
Afternoon Tea: Fruit and biscuits
Dinner: Roast chicken and vegetables
Breakfast: Cereal with regular cow’s milk or toast and spreads
All meals are simple, nutritious, and prepared fresh with guidance from mentors. As the initiative grows, we hope to expand our capacity to accommodate a wider range of dietary needs.
What kind of activities happen at the camp?
Each Cultivate 2K camp is shaped around the four core needs of every young person: Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity. Through shared meals, nature walks, creative expression, fire circles, team challenges, and quiet moments of reflection—we create an environment where young people can feel safe to grow. Every activity is a gentle step toward self-discovery: helping them connect with others, explore their strengths, make empowered choices, and learn the joy of giving back. It’s not just a weekend away—it’s a space to remember who they are and what they’re capable of becoming.
What should participants bring?
We provide a full packing list in advance. Essentials include a sleeping bag, comfortable outdoor clothing, personal care items, and any necessary medications.
Is Cultivate 2K a government program?
No. Cultivate 2K is an independent initiative created by 2Kaizen. This gives us full freedom to design meaningful, heart-led experiences—unbound by bureaucracy, but still held to the highest standards of care and safety.
What support and safety measures are in place?
Safety is our highest priority. We maintain a high staff-to-youth ratio, complete thorough site risk assessments, and follow clear safeguarding protocols. Our team is trained to manage group dynamics, de-escalate challenges, and foster emotionally safe environments.
